I first began illustrating children's picture book ideas when author Christine Breen asked me if I would illustrate one of her children's stories. Having never attempted anything like this before it took me a few long months, but was a lot of fun. Below are a few of those illustrations from her story "Tom's Cat" which I rendered in willow charcoal for the dummy book. I enjoyed the whole process of illustrating for this particular reading group so much that I wrote two of my own stories. Below are some of the illustrations in willow charcoal, colour pencil and pastel to accompany those stories.
