                                   Frequently asked questions

Where do I start?

The commissioning process begins with an e-mail to me.    I will endeavour to return your e-mail within 2 days. Once the conversation begins we can talk about your painting in more detail. When people approach me to paint for them they sometimes have something particular in mind. It could be something sentimental like a beach they grew up near, or something simple from their imagination or something similar to what they see on this website.  If you see something here you would like I will do my best to paint it again, but realistically no two paintings ever come out the same. We will discuss the size of your painting and detail involved and agree on a completion time up front. A down payment of 30% is required before painting commences.

How much can I expect to pay?
This will depend on how large or small you want the painting to be and the extent of the detail required. When you email me I will provide a full guide to pricing to the sizes of paintings.

Can you work from a photograph?
Yes. I prefer to work from a clear image, preferable digital and in Jpeg format. Please note:- the photograph must be your own, and not one  uploaded from the internet (Photographic websites, Google images/Flikr etc) without the owner's permission, as working from someone else's photograph without their permission is an illegal a breach of copyright.   I prefer my work to be original and not based on anyone's artistic photographic compositions.

How long will my painting take to paint?
If I already have a commission in progress I will let you know when your painting can begin. Duration will depend on the size of your painting and the amount of detail involved. Please allow up to 10 weeks for completion once the painting has been started though it could be considerably less. Small pieces may only take up to 5-6 weeks. Once completed I will e-mail you an image of the finished painting for your final approval.

What if I am not happy with my painting or change my mind?
I want you to be completely happy with your painting and think it is important that you can see how the work is progessing on a regular basis. However, if you are really not happy with the completed painting before shipping, then you are not obliged to make the balance of the payment. If, on the other hand, you just decide to change your mind about the commission then please be aware that you will lose your deposit.  In the unlikely event that you are not completely satisfied with the painting when you receive it just return it to me  within 30 days and a refund of the balance, plus shipping, will be given. Prints and paintings will only be refunded  if returned undamaged so please ensure you package any returns properly.

How do I pay for my painting?
If you live in  Ireland you can send me a personal cheque. From abroad, you would
need to send an international bankers draft, made out in Euro to the required amount and cashable in an Irish bank. Alternatively you can pay online through Paypal by credit card or from your own Paypal account.

How will you send it to me?
The work will be bubble-wrapped, re-enforced, boxed and sent using registered postage, or if necessary the work can be couriered. Please be aware that the shipping cost, and insurance, is in addition to the cost of the commission itself and will vary from painting to painting, depending on weight and where being shipped to.   I can provide an approximation of cost before any work commences and a more accurate one once the painting is packaged and weighed. All work, including prints, comes with a certificate of authenticity.

Will you publish or make prints and cards of my painting afterwards?
As the artist I retain the copyright to all work produced and therefore the right to make copies of my work in print or greeting card form, but if you do not wish for this to be the case with your commission I will respect your wishes.  I do like to add all work done to this site for the benefit of others viewing my work, but your permission will always be sought first.   If you prefer me not to publish the image then it will not appear on this site or anywhere else.  NB: I do not publish work until the recipient of the painting has received/seen the work.
