How the piece came together........
The study begins with a simple line drawing then a few base colours are added to some of the pebbles. Areas on the paper where the bright highlights reflecting the sunlight are left untouched. Shadows between stones are added.
More layers of colour are added to the existing pebbles to add depth to the shadows and to make the stones stand out. There are many more colours in pebbles when you stop to look at them closely.
Working down the paper to the pebbles at the base, the tone of the pebbles are the main focus ensuring that every shadow and highlight is in its place.
More colours are added to strengthen the look of the stones, blended with a soft cotton tip, and more colours added until the paper can hold no more colour.
After many, many layers of colours to produce just the right hues and this study if finished! Patient rendering with good quality pencils and a good support pays off.
